The Kashmir Valley on Sunday observed a shutdown over the rising incidents of “harassment” and “expulsion” of students and traders outside J&K, in the wake of the Pulwama incident. Meanwhile, a curfew continued for the third straight day in Jammu.
People stayed indoors as markets remained closed all day in the Valley. Several trade bodies had called the shutdown to protest the threats issued to Kashmiris outside the State. Mobile Internet was suspended as a ‘precautionary measure.’
A parent, whose son studies in a college in Dehradun, said his son was “terrified because of the street protests and threats, asking them to vacate.”
Another parent from Bandipora said her daughter was among four facing expulsion from a college in Jaipur for remarks on social media.“Such harsh measures against the students will limit their options in life and will have very negative ramifications in the long run,” she said.
