SPPU FY LLB paper ’leaked’ uploaded on site by error

PUNE: For the first time in the history of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), the examination paper of first year LLB course was allegedly leaked by the examination section of the university.

An official from the university on condition of anonymity shared that the matter came to light after a student approached the Controller of Examination (CoE) to inform him about the blunder. The official shared that the Examination Department was to upload the examination papers of the previous year for the students’ reference but, on Thursday (February 14), a day prior to the examination, the examination papers scheduled on February 15 and 16 were uploaded. The Law of Crime paper was scheduled on Friday while four other optional papers were held on Saturday.

However, the examination wasn’t affected as this instance went unnoticed by the authorities at the Examination Department. Only after the student had approached the controller of examination (CoE) of university informing about the blunder, varsity took down the papers at around 3 pm on Saturday. 

“The paper remained uploaded from Thursday 3 pm till Saturday 3 pm,” informed the official.

Ashok Chavan, CoE, however, denied that there was any paper leak. He said, “A student did make a complaint to me but it wasn’t about any paper leak. The student informed that this year’s examination paper was exactly similar to last year’s exam paper.”

“I have asked the concerned staff member of Examination section to check on this. Since it was the third Saturday and university is non-functional for two days, I couldn’t access the papers. But on Monday, I will inform about the report. But I am not aware of any paper leak,” said Chavan.

Meanwhile, Vice-Chancellor Nitin Karmalkar told Sakal Times that if the incident is true, then re-examination of these papers will be held. “I will certainly probe the matter. And if it revealed that paper was leaked, then a re-examination will be conducted, I promise,” said Karmalkar.
