Members of the All India Lawyers’ Union (AILU) staged a demonstration in protest against the Central and the State governments’ alleged indifference to the problems faced by the advocates, in front of the temporary High Court near here on Friday.
Addressing the gathering, AILU State president S. Rajendra Prasad, who is also a member of the Bar Council of A.P., and secretary N. Srinivasa Rao said many assurances given to the advocates in 2014 remained unfulfilled.
Annual budget
Going back on its promise to earmark ₹5,000 crore in the annual budget, the Central government deceived the legal fraternity, they said. Among others, they demanded that a monthly stipend of ₹5,000 be paid to the juniors, health cards and house sites sanctioned to the advocates, and a judicial academy set up for imparting training on a continuous basis.
Mr. Rajendra Prasad said the AILU represented the advocates’ problems several times to the Union Law Minister and his counterpart in the State but to no avail.
The HC had only 12 Judges against the required strength of 35, which resulted in a number of cases pending disposal and the backlog exceeding one lakh. Unless the vacancies were filled, the cases would continue to pile up, he pointed out.
AILU leaders Koteswara Rao, S. Srinivasa Rao and Ramesh Babu were present.
