‘Fuel conservation key to organisation’s sustenance’

As part of the ‘Fuel Conservation Month’ from January 16 to February 16, the APSRTC officials conducted various programmes for drivers and mechanics on fuel conservation.

The Corporation is running about 12,000 buses to various destinations, including the neighbouring States.

RTC requires eight lakh litres of diesel per day to run its fleet.

Competitions

Essay writing competitions on ‘Role of drivers in utilising oil and gas’ and other related topics in all zones, and gate meetings were conducted for the employees during the month. Prizes would be presented to the winners at a State-level programme.

Executive Director (ED-Engineering) A. Ramakrishna said that fuel is playing a key role in the sustenance of Corporation.

“The Corporation is spending about ₹1,200 crore per year on fuel. At present we are maintaining 5.20 KMPL in APSRTC”, said Mr. Ramakrishna and appealed to the drivers to take steps to save oil and prevent pollution.

Price hike hits RTC hard

Officials said the frequent hike in fuel prices was pushing RTC into losses and opined that introduction of electric, gas and solar vehicles will reduce fuel consumption and save the organisation.
