Vaithilingam expresses dismay over L-G going out of station at a time when the CM is holding a protest

Speaker V. Vaithilingam has urged Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to either depute an official from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs or appoint an administrator to resolve the crisis following the indefinite dharna by the Council of Ministers led by V. Narayanasamy.

In a letter to Mr. Singh on Thursday night, Mr. Vaithilingam said the Home Ministry had to intervene as the Lt. Governor had decided to keep away from the administrative headquarters.

The Chief Minister had written to the Lt. Governor on February 7 citing the administrative problems faced by the government due to her interference.

As there was no response, the Chief Minister and Ministers resorted to an indefinite dharna before the Raj Nivas, the Speaker said in the letter.

Offer of mediation

β€œI personally went to the venue of the agitation. I expressed through the media that if the Lieutenant Governor desires, I am ready to mediate to end this impasse in the interest of public... and I volunteered to meet the Lt. Governor but it did not bear fruit,” he said.

To his dismay, the Lt. Governor left the Raj Nivas all of a sudden. It was understood that she would return only by February 21, the letter said.

β€œIt needs to be mentioned here that it is the duty of the administrator to remain in station to explore all possibilities to bring a fruitful solution and end this matter amicably. But it is a surprise to me how the head of the administration could leave the headquarters at this very abnormal situation when the entire Cabinet sits on a dharna,” the Speaker said.

It was time for the Union Government to intervene and bring an end to the unusual situation, he added.
