Varanasi: The mortal remains of CRPF jawans Ramesh Yadav and Awdhesh Yadav martyred in the Pulwama suicide terror attack in Kashmir on Thursday, were consigned to flames with full state honours at Ballua Ghat on the banks of the Ganga in highly emotionally charged atmosphere on Saturday.
Union ministers Mahesh Chandra Sharma and Manoj Sinha, UP ministers Neelkanth Tiwari and Anil Rajbhar, and BJP state president Mahendra Nath Pandey along with district administration and police officials attended the funeral of Ramesh Yadav, resident of Tofapur village in Varanasi.

The entire village echoed with ‘Bharat mata ki jai’, ‘Ramesh Yadav amar rahe’ and ‘Pakistan murdabad’ slogans, when the martyr’s body was brought on Saturday morning.

People from nearby villages assembled in large numbers to pay tributes to the martyr.

Union minister Mahesh Chandra Sharma assured Ramesh’s father Shyam Narayan Yadav that the government is committed to taking care of the martyr’s family and would fulfil the demand of constructing a memorial gate and naming a road in the martyrs name, besides providing a job to his widow and financial assistance for his one-and-a-half-year-old son.

As the crowds swelled, it took hours for the funeral procession to cover a distance of 13km from Tofapur to Ballua Ghat. All along the way, people including women and children, lined up on both sides of the road to pay homage to Yadav. People continued to join the funeral procession until it reached the ghat, where cremation took place around 3.45pm.

The students of various schools also lined the roads holding placards to pay tributes. All the markets on the way remained closed.

The mortal remains of martyr Awdhesh Yadav, resident of Bahadurpur village in Chandauli district, were also consigned to flames at Ballua Ghat on the opposite bank of Ganga.
