Peerless Hospital to host the First Update on Clinical Nutrition in Advance Nutrition Care

16th February, 2019, Kolkata: Peerless Hospital and B. K. Roy Research Centre, one of the oldest and a reputed health care institutions of Eastern India with the maximum medical, nursing, paramedical and management courses under one roof is all set to host the First Update on Clinical Nutrition in Advance Nutrition Care. The Clinical Nutrition Update 2019 conference is an academic effort taken jointly by the Peerless Hospital and B. K. Roy Research Centre and Peerless General Finance and Investment Company Ltd. for strengthening the Clinical Nutrition awareness in Eastern India.  The daylong conference which is being organized on 16th February, 2019 at the Gateway Hotel, Kolkata will aim to provide a core knowledge exchange platform to distinguished doctors, clinical nutritionists, physicians and dieticians from across the Country and Bangladesh, highlighting the latest advancements and updates in the field of Clinical Nutrition. The conference will also aim to provide healthcare practitioners with an understanding of the central role of nutrition in healthcare sphere. Representatives from various healthcare facilities will throw light upon various specialties like Gastroenterology, Critical Care, Oncology, Nephrology. Separate panel discussions will be held on Paediatric, Diabetes, which will be followed by prize distribution.

The conference will witness the presence of approximately 200 doctors and clinical dieticians. A 10-member team of dieticians is also attending from neighbouring country, Bangladesh in this conference. The conference will witness over 30 reputed speakers from different National and local Hospitals who would highlight the importance of proper nutritional management in treating patients of different specialties. The conference will witness national speakers like Dr Anita Saxena from SGPGI, Lucknow, Dr Jaya Benjamin from ILBS, New Delhi along with Dr Daphnee DK from Apollo Hospitals, Chennai. 

 Elaborating on the need of the right nutrition for recovery, Ms Sudesna Maitra NagChief Dietician of Peerless Hospital and Organizing Secretary of the conference, said, “Proper nutritional management is the key to rapid recovery process of all diseases. This Clinical Nutrition Update Conference will essentially highlight the recent updates in Clinical nutrition in the field of Gastroenterology, Critical Care, Oncology, Renal, Paediatric Medicine and Diabetes. The focus is on budding clinical dieticians from the city who will be benefitted the most by knowing about global practices, trends and developments that can lead to patient care improvement”

Dr Subhrojyoti Bhowmick, Clinical Director, Academics and Research, Peerless Hospital and Chairperson of the Scientific Committee,said, “Our conference aims to bring together doctors and dieticians on a single platform and seek common solutions about nutritional management of certain diseases. This has hardly been seen in any conferences commonly organized in Eastern India. The way forward of treating patients is based on evidence based medicine i.e. utilizing the best evidence of published research to treat patients efficiently, which is our key theme this year. Research work is scarcely conducted in the field of clinical nutrition in India and we wanted to motivate the young minds to experience global best practices, through this conference. We are having a poster competition for the conference delegates where the participants will be able to share their research work”.

The conference has been designed to have a wide variety of formats including panel discussions, lectures, and presentations that will highlight important issues like nutrition in Gastroenterology and the need of nutrition in Liver Disease. Gastro will be followed by Critical Care and the juxtaposed views in Critical Care Nutrition besides protein delivery. Oncology will be the next area of discussion, with the rise in Cancer patients in this part of the World, doctors will focus on understanding Cancer Cachexia (weakness and wasting of the body due to severe chronic illness). The other specialty which will follow Oncology will hold discussions on Nephrology. There the doctors will discuss Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) and its necessary nutritional management, reverse epidemiology in a dialysis patient followed by nutritional management in non-dialysis CKD.

The conference will also witness two panel discussions on nutrition in children and nutritional management of Diabetes patients where experts in the fields of paediatrics and diabetes would discuss about certain myths and facts regarding nutritional management of these two important patient population.
