Prakruthi Ananth on what went into Soundarya Rajnikanth's six wedding looks

Prakruthi Ananth is yet to recover from her latest assignment: dolling up Soundarya Rajinikanth on her big day. In an interview with Sundaylite, the celebrity makeup artist discusses the various looks and her own signature style at Prakatwork (a brand she launched in 2014).

How did it all happen?

Composer Anirudh Ravichander is a regular client and his mother, Lakshmi Ravichander of Event Art, was planning the décor for Soundarya’s wedding. On her suggestion, Soundarya approached me in December 2018 and we went through the several looks required.

Did she have any specifications?

Soundarya was very clear about two things she wanted: simple makeup, nothing too heavy, and well-defined eyes. I had the freedom to work around this brief.

What was the aesthetic you were going for?

I would describe it as ‘there-but-not-there’. We went for subtle makeup with prominent eyes: gold on top and bottom. Usually brides like a winged liner on top but we thought a smoked-out liner would work better, considering her eye shape and required definition. I went easy on the colours - earthy tones and soft pinks - and played around with textures. For one event we went all matte.

Tell us about the products used.

For the skin base, I used Nars and Fenty Beauty. For the eyes, we went with Huda Beauty and Urban Decay kohl. I opted for Anastasia Beverly Hills and Gerard Cosmetics for her lips and the NYX Cosmetics blush.

Did you have a chance to get a peek at the Sabyasachi outfit earlier?

I unwrapped each of Soundarya’s outfits before the event and had to come up with her look right then. I got congratulatory calls the next day and was very confused. It's only later I realised that my photo of Soundarya was featured on designer Sabyasachi’s Instagram account.
