Police said that Muniyan (50) of Kilayyampettai village near Arni was attached to the Polur station. He committed suicide by consuming poison near a lake in his native village. On seeing his condition, locals rushed him to the Arni government hospital where doctors declared him ‘brought dead.’

Sources revealed that Muniyan’s wife Saraswathi was working as SI in the district police office at Tiruvannamalai. They have two children Karan (6) and Mugil (4). As most of Muniyan’s colleagues were promoted as SIs and as his wife was also an SI, it was said that this depressed Muniyan, who was on leave for the last 18 days. He took the extreme step on Friday. Kalambur police registered a case and are investigating.
