DHARAMSHALA: Himachal Pradesh Central University will mark the ground breaking ceremony for its permanent campus on February 21 this month.
Due to political interests the university has been divided in two campuses at Dehra and Dharamshala in Kangra district of this hill state.
From last 10 years, since 2009, the varsity is running its operations in rented accommodations at various places.
BJP state president, Satpal Satti, has confirmed that Union Minister Parkash Javedkar will be arriving in Himachal to mark this occasion.
"The ground breaking ceremony will be held for its campuses at Dehra and Dharamshala on February 21" he said.
Political interests have divided the university into two campuses. Congress was eyeing for campus at Dharamshala while BJP for Dehra.
The tussle kept the varsity waiting for a campus for years. Later due to too much delay, the varsity has also dropped medical and engineering colleges from its agenda.
Dehra comes under the parliamentary constituency Hamirpur, represented by BJP MP Anurag Thakur and Dharamshala comes under Kangra Parliamentary constituency represented by BJP MP Shanta Kumar.
Recently, the 70% complex of Central University at Dehra received final forest clearance from Ministry of Environment, Government of India.
Right from 2009, post announcement of Central University project, efforts were made to ensure the process gets expedited.
Before this ceremony, the politicians have started claiming the credit for the event.
BJP MP Anurag Thakur has issued a statement on Monday while earlier he has released a video for the same on social media.
Former Congress Minister Sudhir Sharma and his supporters were giving credit to their leader for bringing the varsity campus to Dharamshala.
