HYDERABAD: Mountaineer Malavath Poorna has become the world’s first tribal woman to scale four highest mountain peaks located in four continents of the world. She has also become world’s youngest tribal to achieve the feat.
It was joy and thrill beyond words for the youngest mountaineer, who had already conquered Mt. Everest (Asia), Mt. Kilimanjaro (Africa), Mt. Elbrus (Europe) before conquering Mt. Aconcagua, the highest mountain peak in the southern and western hemisphere on Friday.
“Now, I’m setting my eyes on scaling the remaining top three peaks in the world: Mt. Denali (North America), Mt. Vinson Massif (Antarctica) and Mt. Kosciuszko (Australia),” said Poorna from the summit of Mt. Aconcagua, Argentina adding that her goal is to make the state of Telangana and India proud by becoming the youngest tribal woman in the world to scale seven tallest mountain peaks across all seven continents.
Describing her journey to the highest mountain peak, she said, “I cannot even describe how difficult the climb was, it was much difficult than Mt. Everest, but I resolved to go ahead with the mission,” she said adding that SWAROES ten commandments taught her not to give up, no matter what the circumstances are.
Poorna is currently pursuing her undergraduate studies at Telangana Social Welfare Residential Degree College for Women in Kamareddy.
Noted Bollywood film director and producer Rahul Bose produced a film ‘Poorna, Courage Has No Limit’ based on the real-life story of Poorna. She had participated in the 70th United Nations General Assembly in New York in September 2015.
