NEW DELHI: A 58-year-old DTC bus driver, who operated out of northwest Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar, was found dead in a pit beside a road in Sonipat on Thursday. Police said his car was found parked in a forested area near Alipur in outer Delhi.
The man, Pritam Singh Rathore, left after work on Wednesday evening but did not reach home. Later that night, his son Deepak reached the police station and registered a missing complaint following which a search was launched. Police suspect personal enmity to be behind the killing.
The Sonipat cops recovered the body on Thursday and contacted their counterparts in Delhi. The body was later identified by Rathore’s family. Police said it had strangulation mark on the throat and some injuries indicating a scuffle.
Rathore’s family said he used to drive his Hyundai Santro to the depot and back. He is unlikely to have offered a lift to someone unknown, they claimed. “We kept calling him, but his phone was switched off. It seems that someone abducted him from the depot,” claimed a family member.
After filing a complaint, Deepak started to track the GPS locator fitted in the car and found it abandoned on the road side with the parking lights on. It also had some scratches indicating that the vehicle might have brushed against something.
DCP (northwest) Vijayanta Arya said a preliminary probe suggests someone known to be involved in the crime. The possibility of a robbery was ruled out since most of Rathore’s belongings were found intact.
A rivalry with a colleague or a former driver is also being probed and the victim’s call records are being scanned. “We are looking through the clues available from both the areas where the body and the car were found. Some leads are also being pursued,” said DCP Arya.
