The Mahila Court at Chengalpattu on Friday ordered a youth to be hanged after convicting him for the rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl in Alathur near Tiruporur in 2017.

The offender, L. Ashok Kumar, 24, was a frequent visitor to the victim’s house since her sister worked with him.

On July 23, 2017, the victim was alone at home and he gagged her and raped her.

He also drew a knife and slit her neck, resulting in her instant death.

Pronouncing the judgement in the case, Mahila Court Judge P. Velmurugan convicted Ashok Kumar and sentenced him to life imprisonment for offences under Section 6 (Punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of POCSO. The Judge also said the convict should be hanged till deathfor offences under Section 302 ( Punishment for murder) read with 376 A (Punishment for causing death or resulting in persistent vegetative state of victim) of the IPC .
