BENGALURU: A 32-year-old rowdy-sheeter threw toilet-cleaning acid on police personnel and attempted to commit suicide by consuming it in Chikkabanavara on Wednesday evening.
Bagalgunte sub-inspector M Kumar and head constable Srinivas, who were attacked with acid, were treated as outpatients at a nearby hospital, while rowdy-sheeter Jagadeesha alias Tattoo Jaga, a Peenya resident, was admitted to Saptagiri Medical College Hospital for treatment, police said.

A team led by Bagalgunte inspector Shivaswamy CB later arrested Jagadeesh's associates - Balakrishna alias Bala and Varun alias Varu - from the spot.

According to police, Jagadeesh and his two associates were at large since January 2 after they allegedly barged into the house of their rival Gangadhar, also a rowdy-sheeter with Peenya police station, and attacked him with machetes.

On receiving credible information that Jagadeesh, Bala and Varun were near Chikkabanavara Lake, police rushed to the spot in a private car. When the trio tried to flee in their car, police chased them for about 500m and cordoned the vehicle.

While police managed to arrest Bala and Varun, SI Kumar and head constable Srinivas chased Jagadeesh. He took out a bottle of acid and threatened to throw it on them if they came near him. Jagadeesh then threw the acid on his pursuers, but when they did not relent, the rowdy himself consumed the liquid.

"We detained him and rushed him to Saptagiri Medical College Hospital, where he is under treatment. He is out of danger. We later learnt that the liquid was toilet-cleaning acid," said a police officer.

Soladevanahalli police have registered a case about the incident. "We've registered a case of attempt to murder police officers and obstructing them from discharging their duty," they said.
