The Colorado ZR2 Bison may be the most expensive version of Chevrolet’s mid-size truck currently sold, but that hasn’t stopped dealerships across the United States snapping up the vehicle for 2019.

Speaking with GM Authority, Chevrolet truck marketing director Sandor Piszar revealed that General Motors and American Expedition Vehicles, the company responsible for fitting the ZR2 Bison with its off-road parts, only allocated 2,000 units for the 2019 model year.

Priced from $48,045, one may have thought Chevy would struggle to find buyers. That’s clearly not the case.

According to Piszar, dealerships have secured all production of the Colorado ZR2 Bison for the year, though that doesn’t mean that it’s already sold out. Speaking to CNET, Chevrolet spokesman Monte Doran said that customers “should still be able to find one of the trucks if they’re able to contact a dealer that has ordered a Bison but hasn’t yet sold it to a customer”. But they’d better hurry, as Doran says they “are selling almost as soon as they hit the showroom,” averaging 10 days on dealer lots.

However, even if you end up missing out this year, the model will also be produced through the 2020MY – although that obviously means you’ll have to face a long wait.

The Colorado ZR2 Bison comes loaded with a serious range of parts that ensure it’s ready for even the most difficult terrain. These include front and rear locking differentials, Multimatic dampers, new skid plates, flared arches, and stamped steel bumpers that can support a winch. Additionally, the Bison rides on bespoke 17-inch wheels with 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler Duratec off-road tires.

Customers have two engines to choose from: a 3.6-liter gasoline V6 or a 2.8-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder. The former pumps out 308 hp and 275 lb-ft (372 Nm) of torque while the diesel makes do with 186 hp but does have 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. The V6 comes with an eight-speed auto ‘box, while the diesel has to make do with a six-speed unit.
