HYDERABAD: Disturbed by the intimidating tactics of right-wing activists who took a video of them walking around a lake in Siddiept on Thursday and uploading it on social media, a young couple came to Hyderabad on Friday to commit suicide by jumping into Hussainsagar. However, police found the couple in time and foiled their attempt. Siddipet police bound over 10 rightwing activists for harassing the couple and uploading their videos on social media.
At 9.30am, cops saw a 22-year-old youth and a woman, 22, trying to jump into Hussainsagar near the 'LOVE HYD' sculpture. They confronted the couple and took them to Lake police station for counselling. During the counselling, the couple said that they are private sector employees from Siddipet and they belong to different communities. "The activists had told the young couple that what they were doing was wrong and asked them to leave the place. They took the video of the couple and uploaded it on social media," Siddipet commissioner Joel Davis said.
Afraid to go home, the couple decided to end their lives.
