Ujjain: Freak weather condition that followed Wednesday night’s unseasonal rain, commonly known as Mavtha, brought a change in temperature. Hailstorm was also reported. The city recorded 1mm rain. According to information received from Government Jiwajirao Observatory, mercury shot up on February 10.
The night temperature was recorded at 4.5 degrees and day temperature at 25.5 degrees Celsius. Ever since, the mercury level has been on upward swing during day time. While the day temperature was recorded at 31.5 degrees, night temperature stood at 17.5 degrees Celsius.
The city has witnessed unseasonal rain in February after two years. It is said that rise in temperature after a bout of cold and cloudy sky led to Wednesday night’s unseasonal rain. The situation was opposite on Indore Road area. Mahananda Nagar, Nanakheda, Rishi Nagar, Engineering College and around a dozen colonies turned muddy causing problems for commuters. Unseasonal rain also led to decline in arrival of grain and wheat in Chimanganj Krishi Upak Mandi. However, there were no reports of loss. Mandi secretary Rajesh Goyal said that no grain was damaged in market premises due to rain.
