JAIPUR: Mystery deepened over two police officers of Jhotwara circle who went missing since an assistant public prosecutor (APP), a head constable and middleman were arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday.

ACB officers on Thursday said that the role of Aas Mohammad, assistant commissioner of police, Jhotwara and Pradeep Charan, the station house officer of Jhotwara is under the radar and they appeared to be the facilitator and key beneficiary of the corruption nexus.

Battu Khan, the reader of the police station was suspended, while the SHO was sent to lines by the Jaipur police commissionerate officials.

On Wednesday, the ACB had arrested a constable posted at Jhotwara police station for accepting bribe of Rs1 lakh for allegedly acting on two criminal cases by flouting investigation rules along with a middleman and APP.

“If the accused constable Battu Khan has taken a bribe of Rs 3 lakh in the past through his middleman Sumant Singh, there is a clear role of his seniors including Pradeep Charan, the SHO and Aas Mohammad assistant commissioner of police, Jhotwara. If they have no role in it why they evaded a fair interrogation when summoned by our men,” said Saurabh Srivastav, additional director general (ADG), ACB while talking to TOI.

“The ACP Aas Mohammed first met the complaint and he actually told him to meet Battu Khan, the constable. After the meeting money to be paid was decided. So, Mohammad in the case is the key conspirator, the beneficiary and the facilitator,” said a senior officer.

According to ACB officials, the accused constable Battu Khan had earlier taken a bribe of Rs 3lakh through his middleman Sumant Singh in order to mellow down the investigation against the complainant and also to remove the name of his wife from a case.

ACB officials said that if the two fleeing police officers have not done anything wrong, what is the harm in coming and facing the questions from our team?
