BENGALURU: Passengers might face inconvenience with train services along the Bangalore Cantonment-Whitefield section expected to be affected from February 16 to February 19.

South Western Railway officials said 59 trains will be cancelled, 11 trains will be partially cancelled and 15 will be diverted during this period due to commissioning of the automatic signalling system between Byappanahalli and Whitefield.

In a press release, the SWR on Friday said following trains will be cancelled/partially cancelled/diverted due to safety related works and non-interlocking work for commissioning of Automatic Signaling between Bengaluru Cantonment – Whitefield section.

Last week, the first automatic signalling of Bangalore Cantonment-Byappanahalli section was commissioned. Work from Byappanahalli to Whitefield is expected to be completed by Tuesday.

The signalling project on Bangalore Cantonment-Whitefield section (19km) was sanctioned in 2013-14 at cost of Rs 19.8 crore. The stations to be affected are Bangalore Cantonment, Bangalore East, Byappanahalli, KR Puram, Hoodi (Halt) and Whitefield.

The system is expected to optimise use of tracks to operate more trains, eliminate manual operations, improve punctuality and reduce delays. The KSR Bengaluru-Byappanahalli-Whitefield section sees 86 trains daily, including 26 short-distance services.
