Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav said on Thursday that he would awaken the backward communities, who were suppressed by the TDP government, to choose an alternative they considered good in the State.
Addressing the media here, Mr. Srinivas Yadav said the Backward Classes Sub-Plan that was “hastily” cleared in the A.P. Legislative Assembly was intended to reap electoral dividends.
Kapu quota
He also said the Bill passed by the Assembly apportioning to the Kapus 5% of the 10% reservation provided by the Centre to the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in the general category was against law as the Union government did not frame the guidelines on the 103rd constitutional amendment made by Parliament for the EWS reservation.
The TRS leader said the people of A.P. were not fools to think that the farm loan waiver, the ‘Pasupu Kumkuma’, and a host of other schemes announced recently were a result of Mr. Naidu’s concern for the poor. It was clear from the government’s own words that it was operating on a shoe-string budget. It was Mr. Naidu’s compulsion to attract those sections with such schemes, he alleged.
In its last-ditch effort to lure the farmers, the government announced financial assistance of ₹10,000, but the Agriculture Minister himself was not clear about the State’s share in it.
SCS row
On the Special Category Status (SCS) and implementation of the A.P. Reorganisation Act, Mr. Srinivas Yadav said Mr. Naidu would have succeeded had he staged protests in New Delhi for the last three years. Instead, by staging the ‘Dharma Porata Deeksha’ recently, Mr. Naidu projected as though he was serving an ultimatum on the Centre when the elections were round the corner.
He alleged that the State government was mired in corruption and incurred huge wasteful expenditure on publicity in spite of the debilitating impact of revenue deficit of nearly ₹16,000 crore. The government was doing real estate business in Amaravati with 33,000 acres of land claimed to be pooled from the farmers, the TRS leader alleged.
Referring to the Telangana elections, Mr. Srinivas Yadav alleged that huge sums had been distributed to the TDP and Congress candidates to defeat the TRS.
