A 25-year-old man, a member of Naveen Khati gang, has been arrested for allegedly killing a man in Palam village to establish supremacy in the area, the police said on Thursday. The accused had a bounty of ₹50,000 on his head announced.

DCP (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse said that the accused has been identified as Ravi alias Chiru, a resident of Pochanpur, who was involved in cases of attempt to murder, Arms Act and motor vehicle theft.

The police said they received a call on January 16 regarding a firing incident in Sadh Nagar. When police reached the spot, they were informed that the injured has been shifted to Bhagat Chandra Hospital. At the hospital where the man was declared brought dead, he was identified as Animesh. The complainant, a friend of the deceased, informed the police that Ravi had killed him.

Trap laid

On Tuesday, police received a tip-off that Ravi was in Dwarka after which a trap was laid and he was arrested.

During questioning, he allegedly told the police that he had shortlisted three persons to kill, including Animesh who were a challenge to his supremacy. “He formed a group with his brother Raju and friends Sahil and Happy Sharma. They got an opportunity on January 16 when they found Animesh standing with his friends. They shot him from point-blank range,” Mr. Alphonse said. The police said Ravi dropped out of the school after Class XI and joined Naveen Khati gang; he extorted money on his behalf as well. The accused was arrested in 2016 by Special Cell in an attempt to murder case and also in 2017 for firing at a police party.
