After an investigation, the police said that Manoj allegedly expressed his love to a girl on the campus and the girl who turned it down approached her friends for help. Her friends, two students of IIT, sought the help of Pramod Kaushik, also an MTech student. Pramod met Manoj near the central library on Wednesday evening and told him not to disturb the girl.

An argument erupted between them over this and Manoj stabbed Pramod Kaushik in his abdomen with a kitchen knife and fled the spot. Pramod’s friends rushed him to a private hospital, where he is said to be out of danger. Manoj Kumar was remanded in judicial custody on Thursday.
