Focal Point a stinking mess, health hazard: Residents

Ludhiana: The foul-smelling and garbage-ridden neighbourhood of Focal Point has been giving its residents sleepless nights. Even commuters and passersby are not spared by the stinking mess.
While humans are repelled by the garbage heaps strewn along the roadsides, stray animals are as much fond of them. A resident said, “The waste piles attract stray animals who start feeding on the same and while they are at it, in no time the roads turn into a chaos of traffic and commuters are stranded in long snarls. It is high time that the MC took steps to clean the area.”

Mridul Kumar, a daily commuter, said, “Every day as I enter the area, I wish all the garbage could just disappear. It gives commuters a hard time and if you are travelling by car, you dare not pull the window down. If you do, the foul smell will haunt you throughout your journey.”

Focal point has remained plagued by the unchecked garbage problem for such a long time, but what’s more disappointing is that the civic body has not acted promptly to resolve the issue, said a factory worker, Manjar Alam.

“It is a perfect state for the rapid spreading of bacterial and viral infections. The MC should covering the land and created a park here which can provide fresh air to the people living in the area,” said Paras Khurana, a factory owner.

When contacted on the issue, MC commissioner Kamalpreet Brar said, “We are working on the issue and want people to call us and tell us about their problems. They can tell us in which area are they facing the issues so we can resolve the same with immediate effect.”
