Engineer gets life term for raping, refusing to marry Scheduled Caste woman

CHANDIGARH: A city district court awarded life imprisonment to a 27-year-old engineer for raping a BA final-year student in 2016 and refusing to marry her because she belonged to a Scheduled Caste.
The court of additional district and sessions judge Vijay Singh pronounced the sentenced after holding the Himachal Pradesh youth guilty under sections 376 (2)(n) (rape) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 3(2)(v) of the SC and ST Act. The court, which said the convict took advantage of an innocent girl, also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him.
