New Delhi, Union Minister Arun Jaitley on Friday resumed the charge of the Finance Ministry and thanked Railway Minister Piyush Goyal for discharging duties “diligently and competently” in his absence.
“Resumed work at the Ministry of Finance today. Thankful to Shri Piyush Goyal who discharged the responsibility at the MoF diligently & competently,” Mr Jaitley tweeted.
Soon after resuming the charge, Mr Jaitley attended the crucial meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security, convened to review security situation in Jammu and Kashmir following the terror attack at Pulwama on a CRPF convoy killing more than 40 personnel.
In a series of tweets, the Minister said the CCS decided that the Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status given to Pakistan was withdrawn.
He said, “India will press with the international community to ensure the early adoption at the UN of the ‘Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism’. …The Ministry of External Affairs will initiate all diplomatic measures to ensure the global isolation of Pakistan.”
Paying tributes to martyrs, he said, “India salutes the martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation. The perpetrators of the act of terrorism at Pulwama will have to pay a heavy cost for their actions.”
Mr Jailtey added that Home Minister Rajnath Singh after his return from Srinagar will soon call an All-Party meeting.
Mr Jaitley had left for the US on January 13 for medical treatment. On January 23, Mr Goyal was given the additional charge of the Finance Ministry and Corporate Affairs.
