KOLKATA: The circumstances in which the car carrying Harshita Khemka and her friends overturned in Panchla on Wednesday, killing the 24-year-old, are still unclear to cops in Howrah. Sources said efforts were on to reconstruct the event with help from forensic experts and the technical checking of the remains of the vehicle was being carried out. The owner of the car has also been summoned.
"We have asked the owner to come with papers that show the car was roadworthy. So far, witness accounts have shown that the driver had rammed the divider himself. However, this theory needs to be backed with forensic evidence," said a source.
"We are scanning the CCTV footage from the vicinity," an officer said.
Khemka was cremated early on Thursday and a puja was performed on the ground floor of Diamond Apartments on Buroshibtala Road under Behala police station.
"The complex has more than 100 flats and whoever learnt of the tragedy came to offer condolences. The relatives had started coming in from Wednesday afternoon itself," said a neighbour.
"Khemka's mother has gone into shock and the family is worried about her health," said another neighbour.
