PWD plans to tie up with Government Polytechnic for interns
TNN | Updated: Feb 15, 2019, 06:13 ISTNAGPUR: Ulhas Debadwar, chief engineer of Public Works Department (PWD), Nagpur region, on Thursday said the PWD would tie up with Government Polytechnic so that its students can do internships with the government agency during their vacation. He also said that he would ask PWD contractors and consultants to hold campus recruitment drive at the polytechnic.
Debadwar made the statements during his speech as chief guest of the 21st convocation of the Sadar-based institute. Over 700 students from 12 branches were awarded diplomas while 24 among them received medals and prizes on the occasion.
Principal Chandrashekhar Thorat and joint director of technical education Gulabrao Thakare, who is also chairman of governing board, were present.
The chief engineer said, “The field exposure would give students a lowdown on practical problems faced by engineers and they would know the difference between theory and industry,” he said.
“Every one here is excited about the party after convocation, but before that let me give a simple advise. After you step out of this institute, you will enter a different world with lots of opportunities as well as difficulties. As you embark on a professional journey, don’t forgot to learn new things. If you keep going you’ll surely be unstoppable and everyone present here can do this,” he said.
Debadwar said students should never be discouraged by failures. “If people think you are loser for your initial mistakes, prove them wrong with rigour and hard work. If you don’t find a job, be an entrepreneur,” he said.
Dhananjay Hiwase is the topper among all the 12 departments comprising 715 students of the 2019 batch. The final-year diploma student has scored 96.75% which is highest among all the branches. The top score also earned him a gold medal and seven awards. Total 29 awards instituted by academicians, industrialists, and professionals were awarded to meritorious students.
