‘It is people’s money and it should be returned’

Training his guns on Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, BJP national spokesperson and Rajya Sabha member G.V.L. Narasimha Rao said on Thursday that he was lavishly spending government funds for party meetings.

Interacting with the media here, Mr. Narasimha Rao said, “For the recent ‘Dharma Porata Deeksha’ in New Delhi, Mr. Naidu, through G.O. RT No. 215, allocated ₹10 crore.”

Mr. Narasimha Rao, however, remained silent when it was brought to his notice that a Minister had clarified that only ₹2.5 crore of the sanctioned ₹10 crore was spent on the programme.

Mr. Narasimha Rao further said, through G.O. RT No. 260, Mr. Naidu allocated around ₹138 crore for the ‘Navanirmana Deeksha’.

Huge amounts were spent from the State’s exchequer by the TDP government on various party meetings, he alleged.

Mayawati episode

“He (Mr. Naidu) is morally bound to repay the money to the government. When Supreme Court could ask BSP leader Mayawati to pay for her statues that had been installed in UP during her tenure as Chief Minister, why not Mr. Naidu? It is people’s money and it should be returned,” he said.
