HYDERABAD: At 34.4 degrees Celsius, the mercury inched closer to the highest maximum temperature recorded in February last year at 35.1 degrees Celsius.
The normal day-time temperature for Hyderabad in February is 32 degrees Celsius. But Friday’s maximum temperature and the minimum temperature, which stood at 19.9 degrees, are both two degrees above normal.
For the past few days, the city has been experiencing warm days and cold nights with temperature patterns observing fluctuations. Diurnal variation, the difference between day and night temperature, is pretty high now. According to the Telangana state development planning society, the day temperature in areas such as Bandlaguda, Pashamylaram, Viratnagar, Madhapur, Lingampally, Khairtabad, Srinagar Colony and Amberpet stood at 35-36 degrees Celsius.
The night temperature,, however, is also rising. While usually it settles below 20 degrees Celsius , it is hovering between 21 degrees and 24 degree Celsius now in areas such as Musheerabad, Asmanghad, Bahadurpura and Begumpet , to name a few.
Experts have attributed the rise in temperature to warm winds blowing from the south and southeast. Gradual onset of summer over Hyderabad and Telangana commences during March. However, meteorologists predict that the weather is going to get hotter much before that with the maximum temperature expected to touch 36 to 37 degrees Celsius in the next few days. With Telangana experiencing severe cold wave conditions in winter, meteorologists predict that the summer this year may be equally severe.
Meanwhile, moderate rainfall occurred at few places such as Jagtial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Medak and Adilabad.
