BHUBANESWAR: The higher education department has sought application from young faculties of different government colleges and universities to carry out research by getting seed funding from the state government.
Government will provide seed funding of Rs 5 lakh to each faculty member for research. Each year 40 faculties will be provided with such funding. Duration of two years will be the period to show output of the research. Last date to apply for the funding is February 28, official sources said.
Last year, the state government had released policy guidelines on 'Odisha University Research and Innovation Incentivisation Plan (OURIIP)' to provide incentive to some selected scholars and seed funding to young faculty members for research work.
According to the guidelines, any young faculty (below 40 years) with a PhD degree and working in a regular capacity in state universities and colleges (government and aided) under higher education department and also in state government technical colleges/universities under skill development and technical education department can apply for this seed funding with an appropriate research proposal.
"We will scrutinize the research proposals and select the best of them after February 28. We will select 40 innovative research proposals and award them with seed funding," said Asoka Kumar Das, vice chairman of Odisha State Higher Education Council (OSHEC).
He said the seed funding scheme will expect the concerned faculty to produce about two research publications (at least one in the top indexed journals) per year. They will also be expected to write and secure funded research projects from national agencies towards the end of the two year period, he added.
