Child-lifting rumour: Two in cop net

KOLKATA: A salesman was rescued in the Maheshtala area by police when he was being beaten up by a mob, who suspected him to be a child-lifter. Two persons were also arrested for spreading rumour. The incident took place at Sarengabad area of Maheshtala on Thursday morning.
While the injured salesman was admitted to a district hospital, Dilip Mondal and Rabin Chatterjee, residents of Sarengabad, were arrested for spreading rumours that the salesman was a child lifter.
Superintendent of police (Diamond Harbour), S Silva Murugan, said that the arrests were made to give a message that no rumour monger would be spared.
