A day after Chirala MLA Amanchi Krishnamohan quit the TDP, senior party leader Karanam Balarama Krishnamurthy, MLC, on Thursday exhorted the party workers to work in tandem for the party’s victory in the elections.
Taking stock of the political situation in the Chirala constituency, which is dominated by the weavers and other Backward Classes, in Chirala town, Mr. Krishnamurthy wanted the cadres to expose Mr. Krishnamohan for ditching the party at the fag end of the term after enjoying power. “We need not worry about persons who switch parties at the drop of a hat. Without losing heart, we should collectively highlight the welfare and developmental initiatives of the TDP government on a scale not done before despite the resource crunch,” said Environment Minister Sidda Raghava Rao.
Along with Mr. Raghava Rao, Mr. Krishnamurthy, who was deputed by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to stem the rot, held consultations with the second-rung leaders and party workers. Both the leaders wanted the cadres to air their grievances and issues either to MLC Pothula Sunitha or former Minister Paleti Rama Rao.
‘Field BC candidate’
A majority of the party functionaries wanted the leadership to field a candidate from the BC community for the seat. A motorcycle rally was taken out on the occasion.
The exit of Mr. Krishnamohan was good for the party, said Mr. Rama Rao while referring to the attack on a journalist by the MLA’s supporters.
