Bhopal: BJP and Congress have unanimously demanded the highest civilian award Bharat Ratna for the spiritual leader of Jain community Acharya Vidyasagar Maharaj on occasion of 50 years completion of his Diksha. This demand was raised on the occasion of dedication of Sanyam Kiriti Stambh at Raja Bhoj Setu near Kamla Park to mark completion of 50 years his Diksha on Thursday.
BJP leader and mayor Alok Sharma has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi that Saint Vidyasagar Maharaj deserves Bharat Ratna. While Minister for religious trust and endowment and spirituality affairs PC Sharma said that a letter from state government will be written to central government in this matter requesting central government to confer Bharat Ratna to Vidyasagar Maharaj.
It was occasion of dedication of Sayiam Kiriti Stambh at Kamla Park to mark completion of 50 years his Diksha on Thursday.
Sharma, addressing a programme, said, “If central government does not confer Bharat Ratna, then Congress will confer it on him, after coming to power.”
He said, “Honorarium of temple pujaries will be increased three fold. Government will work to promote religious activities in the state. Blessing of such saints is needed for the progress and successful in life. The Kiriti Stambh will not only motivate Jain community but also keep on motivating the people of all religions.”
