Voicing their concern for bowlers’ safety after Ashok Dinda was injured during a practice match, Indian bowlers Ravichandran Ashwin and Jaydev Unadkat called for use of protective gears for bowlers. Ashok Dinda was injured during Bengal’s Twenty 20 practice match at Eden Gardens while trying to attempt a caught-and-bowled. Dinda was severely injured as Birender Vivek Singh’s straight shot hit him on the head. He fell on the ground and was taken to a hospital after completing his over.
On Twitter, Unadkat said that it is high time that face-mask for bowlers should be used in cricket. “About time that a “face-mask” for bowlers makes its way into all that has evolved in cricket. Its scary how this kind of incidents have become frequent in our game! Hope you good Dinda @dindaashoke .. What do you say Ash bhai? @ashwinravi99,” tweeted Unadkat.

Ashwin responded to the tweet saying that he is backing use of protective gears since 2011. “Been saying it since 2011, these kind of incidences never used to happen in the pre T 20 Era. Something has surely changed, wonder what it is”, Ashwin tweeted. Luckily, Dinda was saved from facing any major injury. He was advised two-day rest by doctors.
