‘Need to enhance quality of pre-school education in ICDS centres’

A capacity building training on early childhood care and education (ECCE) for all the staff of Child Rights and You (CRY)-supported projects in A.P. and Telangana began here on Wednesday.

Inaugurating the three-day programme, AP State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Chairperson G. Hymavathi said early childhood was an important phase of personality development .

She quoted a report of NCERT which stated that ECCE had been shown to have positive impacts in raising school enrolment and reducing dropout rates.

The UNESCO report shows that ECCE programme have much to offer in terms of educating inequalities and promoting social cohesion. In the context of A.P. and Telangana, there is a great need to enhance the quality of pre-school education at ICDS centres.

Pre-school education was one of the important elements of ECCE, said Suneel Kumar of CRY . The workshop discussed the need to have an effective coordination between local NGOs and ICDS centres in improving the quality of pre-school education.
