CCTV reveals gunmen spraying bullets into bikie boss' home after setting car on fire
Footage has been released of the moment gunmen sprayed bullets into the home of a known Finks bikie boss after setting his car on fire, all while his wife and newborn son were asleep inside.
Police have revealed the CCTV footage as part of an ongoing investigation into the attack on the rented Frankston home of James Reker, a top Finks motorcycle gang leader, on May 31 last year.
Reker, his wife and two-week-old baby were asleep in the Warrain Street home when his parked Mistubishi Lancer was set alight in front of the house before 5am.
Footage shows one man run from the flame-engulfed vehicle to the driver's seat of a getaway car while the other assailant repeatedly shoots at Reker's home with what appears to be a high-powered firearm.
Police said a bullet also mistakenly struck a neighbouring home where a family — including two children aged under four — were asleep.
The two attackers fled inside the car shortly after. Nobody was injured.
About 10 minutes following the shooting, emergency services were called to reports of a second car fire on Carramar Drive, Frankston. Police are treating the blaze as suspicious and believe the incidents are linked.
Detectives from the anti-gang Echo Taskforce believe the car used as a getaway vehicle was previously seen in Melton, in Melbourne's outer-western suburbs.
Detectives are carrying out cross-checks on the ballistic matches from shots fired at the scene with firearms subsequently seized by police.
Police are hoping to speak to anyone who recognises the men or the vehicle in the footage, or who has knowledge about the incident.
Reker has been looking to re-establish the Finks outlaw motorcycle gang in Victoria after police carried out a series of gang-busting raids on the group in 2015, significantly weakening the group.
Dozens of members joined the the rival Mongol gang in the wake of the raids.
