FALL RIVER – A 17-year-old died early Thursday after being stabbed Wednesday night on Fountain Street.

William Wheeler was taken to St. Anne’s Hospital at 11:55 p.m. Wednesday after being found lying on the floor of an apartment at 96 Fountain St., bleeding from an apparent stab wound, according to Gregg Miliote of the District Attorney’s office.

He was declared dead at 12:42 a.m. Thursday, the DA reports.

No arrests have been reported yet.

“The investigation is extremely active, fluid and ongoing at this time,” Miliote stated. “No one is in custody as of this hour.

“Due to the ongoing nature of this investigation, no further information can be released at this time.”

Detective Sgt. Thomas Mauretti and Lt. Jay Huard are working with State Police detectives and prosecutors with the DA’s office on the case.
