Muvattupuzha church: Police told to file statement

The Kerala High Court has asked the police to explain their constraints in implementing a court order permitting the Orthodox faction to offer prayers at the Cheriya Pally, Kothamangalam.

It was on a petition filed by a priest Thomas Ramban that the court issued the order.

A Division Bench of the court directed the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Muvattupuzha, to submit a statement on the constrains the police faced in implementing the verdict.

The petitioner had sought deployment of the Central Reserve Police Force in the church for extending protection to the faithful.

Though the Kerala High Court had earlier upheld an order of a lower court allowing police protection for the Orthodox faction to offer prayers at the church, the police failed in their duty, the petitioner submitted.

The case will be considered on Tuesday.
