Vadodara: A couple from the city died during a trip to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and four others were injured when a speeding vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident. The condition of a woman injured in the incident is said to be critical.
The accident took place on Tuesday night when the group including the couple from Vadodara – Vinod Patel (46) and Rohini Patel (41) – was returning from a desert safari and their car was speeding on the Al Nazawi Road when the incident took place. Others in the group included Rohini’s sister Vaishali and her brother Yogesh. Vaishali’s husband Deepak, their children Charmi and Manav as well as Yogesh’s wife Meghna were other members of the group.
Rohini died on the sot due to the accident while Vinod died later at the hospital. Sources said that the group was returning from the safari in two different vehicles. Deepak and Manav were travelling in one while the others were in another car. The driver of the vehicle in which Vinod, Rohini and others were travelling lost control and it turned over several times. Deepak who was travelling a little ahead of the rest of the group came to know about the accident when he inquired about reason for the delay of the others reaching the place where they were staying.
Sources close to the family said that the group had reached UAE on February 8 and were to leave on Wednesday. Barring Vinod and Rohini, other members of the group are settled in the United States. They had come to Vadodara last month and had planned the trip.
The deceased couple’s son Birud who studies in London is expected to reach the city on Friday. The bodies are also expected to reach on the same day.
Vinod and Rohini had moved to London in 2008, but returned in 2016. They had visited their son and London recently and spent some time with him there.
