Major tragedy averted as fire equipment was in place

A fire broke out at one of the flats at Ace City in Greater Noida on Wednesday. Police said a welding job going on in another flat had triggered the fire. However, no casualties have been reported as the residents of the flat were away at the time of fire.

As the fire equipment were in place and functional, the fire didn’t spread to other flats and a major tragedy was averted. The maintenance team of the apartment complex were able to douse it before the arrival of the fire officials.

Luckily, the fire didn’t gut the entire flat and only the room adjacent to the balcony was damaged.

It should be noted that this incident happened a day after fire engulfed a hotel in Karol Bagh leaving several dead.

Family was away

Giving more details of the incident, a senior fire officer said the fire had taken place at flat number 1401 on the 14th floor. The official said that one Vibhore Rastogi lives in the flat. At the time of incident, he and his family were not at home. He had gone to attend a function in Indore.

“The fire safety equipment were in place and the water sprinklers automatically started and within minutes the fire was doused. It happened as welding work was going on in another resident’s balcony above my flat,” said Mr. Rastogi.

AC, heater on

However, a neighbour of Mr. Rastogi, Srikant said “Mr. Rastogi’s family was out at the time of the incident. However, an air conditioner and heater were found on. Overheating of the equipment could have led to the mishap.”

“Following the incident, we have in association with the developer formed a committee to examine the fire system in each and every flat as sometimes people tend to cover the sprinklers and alarms with plaster of paris during repair work,” said Anil Nagar, another resident.

An Ace group official said that the group is fully cooperating with the residents to ensure safe and quality living.
