The Japan inbound market is booming for Australia. In the year ending June 2017, Japan ranked as Australia’s fifth largest inbound market based on visitor arrivals and expenditure. Japan surpassed Singapore’s arrivals levels in the last 12 months.
Growth from Japan to Australia is predominantly for Holiday purposes, with Holiday arrivals up 16 per cent and expenditure up 23 per cent in the year ending June 2017. Expenditure growth has also been assisted by a stronger Japanese Yen over the last 12 months.
Australia’s Tourism 2020 strategy estimates that the Japan market has the potential to grow between $2.7 billion and $3.3 billion in total expenditure by 2020.
