FALL RIVER — Two men with ties to Boston-area gangs were arrested by local and state police on drug trafficking and assault charges Wednesday evening.
According to a press release from the Fall River Police Department, the arrests of Tyre J. Wade, 27, of Fall River, and James Mendes, 27, of Randolph, were made after officers spotted a 2011 Mercedes the two men were known to be associated with parked at a gas station on North Main Street.
The vehicle was seen parked outside the gas station at 8:10 Wednesday evening and officers found both men inside the gas station.
Wade, who reportedly engaged in a brief struggle with officers, had 15 bags of crack cocaine, weighing a total 7.32 grams, in his possession, as well as a 11.04 gram bag of heroin.
According to the department’s statement, Wade is a validated member of Boston’s Spencer Street Gang while Mendes is a validated member of Roxbury’s CP2 Charlame 2 gang. Both men had warrants for fentanyl trafficking, possession to distribute a Class A substance, possession to distribute a Class B substance, assault and battery with a deadly weapon and numerous firearms violations.
