Kirti Azad set to join Congress

Darbhanga MP and former cricketer Kirti Jha Azad will be joining the Congress on Friday, ending months of speculation. Speaking to The Hindu, Mr Azad confirmed he would be joining the party.

Congress in the presence of party president Rahul Gandhi around noon and would be addressing a presser thereafter.

“I was suspended from the BJP for no fault of mine. I had not indulged in any anti-party activity, my fight was against a private institution (the Delhi and District Cricket Association) and had nothing to do with the party. Amit Shah (BJP president) stabbed me in the back,” he said.

Mr Azad is a three term MP from Darbhanga in Bihar and has been very publicly at odds with Union minister Arun Jaitley over issues in the DDCA.

“The Mahagathbandhan is on course to win the next polls after the BJP's loss in the three north Indian states.U.P. and Bihar constitute 120 Lok Sabha seats... they will lose heavily there,” said Mr Azad.
