RTO takes strict action against water tanker

PUNE: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) Pune has imposed a penalty of Rs 47,200 on the owner of a water tanker for failing to review the operational permit. The tanker was detained by the traffic police after a youth was injured after his bike skid due to water overflow from the tanker.

According to Rajendra Kale, PI Dattawadi traffic division, “On January 27, around 10.15 am, a water tanker was going from Sinhagad Road towards Sawarkar chowk. A biker was injured after his bike skid due to water overflow from the tanker. After collecting the information, the details of the tanker was sent to RTO. The RTO cancelled the permit of the tanker and imposed a fine of Rs 47,200 to the owner.”

Taking it as seriously, DCP (Traffic) Tejaswi Satpute said that all other divisions have been asked to take similar action against water tankers. Deputy RTO Vinod Sagre said, “The information was provided by the traffic police and after taking the registration number, our inspector checked the vehicle’s document. They found that the owner of the tanker was not carrying proper documents and the permit had expired a few months ago. We produced the owner in the court and the court has imposed a penalty of Rs 47,200 on the owner for failing to review the operational permit.”
