Hosur, Nagercoil to become corporations

The State government has announced that it will upgrade the Hosur and Nagercoil municipalities into municipal corporations. A Bill to this effect was introduced in the Assembly on Wednesday by Municipal Administration minister S.P. Velumani.

With the upgrading of the two municipalities into corporations, Tamil Nadu will have a total of 14 corporations.

The decision was initially announced by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami during the MGR centenary celebrations. At the event in Krishnagiri district on September 23, 2017, he announced the conversion of Krishnagiri municipality into a corporation, considering the population, the growth in annual income and the level of civic services to be provided towards fulfilment of the basic needs of the growing population of Hosur and to improve the standard of living of the people.

On September 22, 2018, in Kanniyakumari district, the CM announced that on completion of delimitation work by the delimitation committee, the Nagercoil municipality will be upgraded into a corporation.
