BBAU teachers warn of indefinite strike

With most classes suspended, BBAU’s sprawling campus wore a deserted look on WednesdayLUCKNOW: Teaching remained suspended in Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) on Wednesday as majority of teachers boycotted classes in protest against police inaction in the attack on the vicechancellor.
The teachers also decided to wear black bands from Thursday in protest and warned of an indefinite strike if the attackers were not nabbed by Sunday.
On Wednesday evening, teachers took out a protest march and burnt the effigy of district administration and police outside the university’s main gate.
“We are unhappy with the speed of police probe. It has been three days and they are clueless about the attackers,” said Prof Yusuf Akhtar.
BBAU registrar RB Ram said, “Teachers will resume work from Thursday but will wear black bands.” Meanwhile, classes in the departments of chemistry and maths under the School of Physical Sciences were held on Wednesday.
“We had no information about the boycott by registrar RB Ram. Also, we don’t support such selective protest. I was also assaulted by some rowdy students but not a single teacher stood up for me. Every one should be treated in the same way, be it a student, teacher, non-teaching staff or a vice chancellor,” said dean of physical sciences, Prof Kaman Singh.
