BELAGAVI: For the past few days, Sriram Sene and its sister organization Durga Sene have been distributing pamphlets opposing the Valentine’s Day at public places in the city. Both organizations have said they will distribute the pamphlets on Thursday too.

They have also called upon youths to celebrate the day as Parents Day instead Valentine’s Day, as such a celebration is against Indian culture and morals. According to Durga Sene state president Kamalavva Jadar, the pamphlet campaign is an initiative to create awareness about the rich culture of India among youths. Durga Sene has printed around 5 lakh pamphlets to be distributed especially among college students.

Jadar claimed that the number of youths celebrating Valentine’s Day has been come down drastically due to the constant awareness and fight of their organization. “We are doing it over the past 10 years. We will not take law on to our hands on the day against youths celebrating the Valentine’s Day but will keep a watch on tourist places, parks, college premises, public places etc. If youths are found engaged in compromising positions, they will be handed over to police or their parents will be informed,” she said.

Sriram Sene chief Pramod Mutalik said, “We are not against love or lovers but to fixing a date for that pious thing. This is nothing but a conspiracy of multi-national companies to make profit and destroy Indian culture. Students should not fall prey to multi-national companies.” He also called upon activists not to take law onto the hands.

According to police sources, the department has made additional security arrangements at parks, temples and tourist places to prevent untoward incidents.
