Members of the district unit of the Karnataka Government State Primary School Teachers’ Association will stage a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office on February 16 demanding starting the transfer process of teachers in the district.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Ravindra Hegde, president of the district unit of the association, said that the process, which used to take place in March-April every year, had been stopped for the last three years owing to poll code and other reasons.

Though the State unit of the association had brought this matter to the notice of the government, there had been no action on it. The process should be taken up immediately, he said.

The government should start the process of promotion of graduate teachers and other teachers. The new pension scheme should be scrapped. The teachers should not be given non-teaching duties including election duty. There are about 500 government primary school teachers in Udupi district, Mr. Hegde added.
