Students of Tamil department of Lady Doak College here on Wednesday enacted ‘Aathimai Ver,’ a thematic and engaging play on the life of college founder Katie Wilcox.

The members of the Theatre Society provided candles and holders to the audience as the play ended with a spectacle, engaging the audience, musicians and the actors.

Inaugurating the play, Somalay Somasundaram, president, Tamil Nadu Foundation, United States of America, said Katie Wilcox selflessly worked for improving the condition of women. Women in Madurai, who did not have avenues of higher studies, first got the option to join Lady Doak College in 1948, he said.

Mr. Somasundaram said he expected to see several visionaries like her in the auditorium. “Everyone must imbibe the message and try to create change,” he said.

M. Ramaswamy, former Professor of Drama, Tamil University, said the play should be staged at more places to take the message to the public.

The play had 14 students in the cast.. Public will be allowed to watch the play on February 14 as well.
