GURUGRAM: A new railway corridor will be built between Palwal and Sonipat, parallel to KMP Expressway, which chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar said would help decongest roads in Haryana and Delhi. The Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor project will be constructed at a cost of Rs 4,100 crore, connecting all major industrial cities in the state, he said on Wednesday.
The project will be developed by Haryana Rail Infrastructure development Corporation (HRIDC) on a joint venture model. The HRIDC is preparing a detailed project report (DPR) of the “economic corridor”, the chief minister said.
Khattar made the announcement while addressing an outreach event organised by HRIDC for its stakeholders to deliberate on the railway line project in Gurugram. “The 130-km railway line will be completed in three years, and it will be finished before we complete our next term,” he said.
A fast track railway line, according to the CM, is also being planned between Delhi and Hisar. “The orbital rail corridor project is an iconic project enabling direct rail connectivity, bypassing Delhi, from Palwal to Sonipat. The new railway corridor will be electrified and will have a double line with 25- tonne axle load capacity,” he said.
The stakeholders of the project are Indian Railways, Haryana Government, HRIDC , CONCOR , Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation, HSIIDC, Maruti Suzuki and Model Economic Township Limited among others.
“The orbit corridor will help decongest transport network of Delhi owing to a shift from radial movement to peripheral movement, and also enable direct rail connectivity for Gurugram, Faridabad, Ballabhgarh, Palwal, Manesar and Farukhnagar with all other districts of Haryana,” the CM said.
The corridor, he said, would boost industrial growth of cities around Delhi — Sohna, Manesar, Gurugram and Rohtak. Besides this, Khattar said the HRIDC would also conduct a feasibility study of various new rail line projects, including Yamunanagar to Chandigarh, a new railway line from Sohna-Nuh-Alwar (75 km), Farukhnagar-Jhajjar-Charkhi Dadri (72 km), Jind-Hisar (46 km), Karnal-Yamunanagar (66 km), Bhiwani-Loharu (58 km) and rail connectivity to Intergrated Aviation Hub in Hisar.
